PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF Cucurbita maxima Duchesne AND Euphorbia royleana Boiss

Phytochemical analysis of the ethanolic extract leaves Cucurbita maxima indicated presence reducing sugars, alkaloids, saponins, tannin, steroid and glycosides whereas Euphorbia royleana glycosides, steroids tannin. The possible analgesic anti-oxidant activities were investigated. exhibited inhibition writhing reflex 16.13% 41.94% respectively (P<0.001 P<0.001) 19.35% 45.16% (P<0.02 on animal model (Swiss Albino mice) at 250 500mg/kg body weight dose level. Diclofenac sodium was used as standard drug. Both plants showed little antioxidant activity, both qualitatively quantitatively. In quantitative assay, displayed free radical scavenging activity in DPPH assay IC50 = 218 µg/ml. 237 µg/ml that for ascorbic acid 17 results provide a support use this plant antioxidant.
